ABOUT + INSIGHT

Number the Stars by Lois Lowry is a book that will keep your heart on the verge of emotion & excitement. Held in the Holocaust, 1945, Danish 10-year-old Annemarie Johansen has to help her best friend Ellen Rosen and her family escape from the clutches of the Nazis. The plan is to move them and other Jews to Sweden. But both families have witnessed several deaths, including loved ones. And even if they have the help of friends, will they still make it out alive?
I loved how the author vividly described life in the Holocaust that I imagined myself to be there, despite that this is a fictional story (based on true events). It was a sad and risky adventure, but worth it because I learn about the risk others take just for their fellow countrymen regardless of their own safety. I believe that stories like these show us the value and example of heroes, that we should love and serve. All in all, I’d like to give this book 5 out of 5 stars.
